Appointments and Fees

Booking an initial appointment

We prefer to chat to you over the phone prior to your first appointment. This ensures we match you with the right psychologist for your needs and schedule. We will take the opportunity to get to know you a little better, to discuss your referral and answer any questions you might have about the process. Please send us an email at hello@succeedpsychology.com to request a call from our Client Services Team or call us on 02 8882 9278 during business hours.

After matching you with your psychologist we will book your initial appointment for you, email you a confirmation, and send you an online consent and intake form to complete. You are then able to book subsequent appointments online, according to your schedule and recommendations of your psychologist regarding frequency.

For existing clients, please book online. Click the link below, select your psychologist, then select a time. You will be emailed an appointment confirmation. If you do not receive an email confirmation, please contact us.

Therapy as a ‘program’

Therapy with us can be best thought of as a progressive program where you will learn, grow and improve step by step. Although this doesn’t always occur in a linear manner, typically people move closer to their therapeutic goals session by session. The way we achieve this is by working with our clients on a therapeutic program that is individually tailored to reach your goals, in your timeframe. Typically, clients attend their first appointment for an ‘assessment’ where we discuss your concerns, history, life circumstances and goals. Your psychologist will make recommendations on the frequency and number of sessions usually taken to achieve those goals. Clients then typically book these sessions in advance to secure their appointment preferences and start working through the program. It is our strong recommendation that you book in advance as our psychologists can be booked out for a number of months. This also reflects the idea that our best learning occurs when we are prepared, as opposed to ‘in crisis’. Our aim is to empower you with skills and knowledge that you can use to prevent or respond proactively in a crisis. A therapeutic program is designed to facilitate genuine personal growth that you may benefit from for years to come and across all domains of your life.

Cancellation policy

We are grateful for our wonderful clients who work with us in the spirit of cooperation to facilitate smooth running of our business and consistent therapeutic progress for themselves. Our cancellation policy requires 48 hours’ notice for any non-attendance of a booked session (rescheduling or cancellation). Cancellations without 48 hours’ notice incur a fee (50% of your session fee). Cancellations without 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full session cost.
As a courtesy, we provide both an email (4 days before) and text (48 hours before) reminder. If you are unable to attend a session in person for any reason (scheduling, transport, illness) please let us know so we can, at the first instance, arrange a zoom session, enabling you to continue your therapeutic progress.

This notice period enables us to offer your session to another individual, who has likely been awaiting an appointment for a number of weeks. We have carefully and thoughtfully matched you with your psychologist, facilitating the time required to meet your treatment goals, and encourage you to discuss and commit to the therapeutic process as discussed with you (which includes an anticipated number of sessions and session frequency). While we can appreciate there are some exceptional circumstances where you may not be able to adhere to the cancellation policy, generally speaking, individuals will know 48 hours out whether they are well enough to attend via Zoom or in person. Cancellation fees will be automatically applied as per the policy.

If an exception to this policy is requested, please make this request in writing to the director who will assess your situation.

Explaining Our Fees

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, your sessions are subsidised by Medicare. This means that Medicare covers a portion of the cost, while you pay the remaining amount. This is also referred to as out of pocket expenses or gap fees. A gap fee allows us to offer you the best range of psychologists and services.

At Succeed Psychology you can expect to

  • Choose from a large team of highly skilled and experienced psychologists, who have all completed post-graduate level qualifications in psychology. We do not employ trainee psychologists.

  • Be offered cutting edge and gold-standard treatment approaches. This includes extras like Virtual Reality treatment.

  • Feel confident in psychometrics. Our psychologists use innovative technology to monitor your outcomes and their own effectiveness. This is used to guide your individual treatment plan.

  • Be matched with the best psychologist for you- including variables such as your presenting concerns, the psychologists’ areas of expertise, treatments offered, personality, age, language or culture.

  • Access specialised diagnostic tools and cognitive assessments

  • Secure an appointment quickly without being put on a long waitlist- with the option to ‘bump up’ whenever an appointment becomes available

  • Speak to clinically trained receptionists

  • Enjoy plush and home-like counselling rooms close to public transport

Why we don’t offer a gap free service

The Australian Psychological Society’s recommended rate is $280. This takes into consideration many factors such as expensive and lengthy training required for psychologists, costly insurances, registration and professional membership fees, ongoing requirements for professional development required for registration, as well as costs associated with obtaining physical space for consulting rooms. At Succeed Psychology we have consistently maintained charging less than the APS recommended rate. Our psychologists are dedicated to providing ongoing care for our clients and aim for this not to be cost-prohibitive. We try to balance the financial needs of our clients, with the desire to offer highly trained psychologists with strong therapeutic skills. We have an amazing team of psychologists and do not want to compromise on the quality of service we provide to you.

By charging a gap fee, we offer you quality over quantity. Our psychologists have time and energy to prepare and plan for your sessions, to provide you with homework and skill building exercises, and to engage in effective self-care to prevent burn-out. This ensures you can have a long term relationship with a psychologist who knows you and is there when you need them in the future.

Gap-Free mental health services are an essential part of our society, as they are often the only option for underserviced populations and those most in need.
